Itinerary:

Have you ever wanted to get up close and personal with a horse of your very own? Do you love the idea of spending an afternoon learning something about horse care, but don't want to spend the money or commit to a year of lessons? Well, here's your chance. I have been around horses for many years, riding, schooling and teaching, and have been involved with the horses at Juniper for the last year. I know these horses well, and the owner of Juniper has graciously allowed me to hold a series of horsemanship courses at her facilities with her horses.

I have heard from many TOC members who would love to spend some time among horses. Nothing will get you closer to a horse than learning to groom one. These are magnificant animals, with distinct personalities. This is a unique opportunity to bond with a horse in a way that is not usually available to the non-rider. If you've been on trail rides before, you'll find that your horse is handed to you ready to go, and you never get to meet the horse in a way that most riders experience every day. If you are wary of horses but also curious, you can learn to get past your fear and understand what makes us horsey people love horses the way we do!

Juniper has horses with all temperaments from the feisty to the serene and they all love being groomed. I will spend some time going through a grooming lesson -the hows and whys we groom a horse the way we do - then you'll be assigned your very own horse to groom and bond with. Don't worry, I'll be right there with you if you feel a bit scared, and you won't be going near the stallions! It's a win-win situation as the horses love the attention and you'll get an afternoon spent in a way you won't soon forget.

Please note that there will be no horse riding, this is just an opportunity to be with the horses and learn a bit about horse care. These are not simple trail ride horses but thoroughbreds that are show horses and retired race horses. There are gentle though and will love the attention - as long as you know horsemanship 101!
