Itinerary:
Upon arrival we will split up into two groups of 15, one led by Matt and the other led by Justin.

For a change of pace and scenery, this TOC hike will move away from the Bruce Trail west of the city and explore Kawartha Lakes area scenery.

For the first of the event we will drive to the Fleetwood Creek Conservation Area, where the bulk of the hiking trails appear to be present.

From the Fleetwood Creek Natural Area website; "The Valley Trail is a 2.2km loop offering visitors two ways to enjoy the area. An observation platform offers a spectacular view of the surrounding land, while the more adventuresome can also travel down into the valley. The Forest Trail is divided into two branches. The West branch, a 3km loop, consists of a twisting path on a gradual slope leading through open meadows and forests of giant beech, maple and hemlock trees. The East trail, a 3km loop, leads through a dense cedar forest, then climbs up the valley slope. The trail continues through an open meadow, then winds back through the forest to the parking area."

For the second part of the event we will visit the Ken Reid Conservation Area. "Ken Reid offers several loop trails that lead through forests, meadows and wetlands. A favourite route includes the floating boardwalk that winds through the provincially significant MacLaren Creek Wetland bordering Sturgeen Lake." - from the website

For the third, and totally optional part of the event, swimming in Sturgeen Lake at the Ken Reid Conservation Area. Giving everyone a chance to cool down after all of our hiking.

This will be an energetically paced hike. Note: organizer Justin has not been on these trails before.
