Itinerary:
For a change of pace and scenery, this TOC hike will move away from the Bruce Trail west of the city and explore Whitby area wetlands.

For the first part of the event we will visit the Lynde Shores Conservation Area. "There is a wooded section where birds (and chipmunks, and squirrels) are fed year-round, so if you take some peanuts with you, they will likely eat out of your hand! Very fun. You will likely be able to see swans from the two different viewing platforms. If you follow the trail away from the wooded area, after a little while (not too long), you will make it to the beach!" - Cynthia B.

From the Lynde Shores Conservation Area website; "Established in 1972 this conservation area is well known for its songbird and waterfowl viewing opportunities. Visitors will enjoy the 2 km of new hard surfaced trails appropriate for wheelchairs and strollers that wind through the Bird Feeder Trail and down to Cranberry Marsh."

For the second part of the event we will drive a few minutes north to the Herber Down Conservation Area, where the bulk of the hiking trails are present.

From the Herber Down Conservation Area website; "The natural valley of the Lynde Creek bisects a portion of this Conservation Area and provides many scenic vistas for those enjoying some of the 5 km of flat to gently sloped trail that runs through this property."

This hike will be gentle to moderately paced hike over mostly smooth trails with some gently sloped sections. The organizer has not been on these trails before.

Note, will be returning in time to attend Steph and Dominic's Jack and Jill at 7:00pm (We should arrive back at Downsview by 3:30pm at the very latest.)
