Itinerary:

* This is the first time I will be hiking this trail. Expect uncertainty. *

* You will need to carry your PASSPORT. This event requires border crossing into USA. *

* Travel health insurance is highly recommended. *

Terrain: Mixed. First half includes difficult and dangerous sections along fast flowing river, large boulders, poorly maintained trail, long staircase climb. Second half is on flat, paved ground. Urban surroundings, public facilities.

Route: Drive to Whirlpool State Park in the United States and leave the car in the parking lot. From what I know so far, it’s free but I could be wrong. We will take the stairs (300+) down to the trail along the river. First we will go upstream 1.5 km through rough, boulder strewn, and poorly maintained trail to check out the whirlpool.
The Niagara whirlpool with its 125 feet deep swirling water is the result of a dramatic 90 degree turn in the direction of the river. The water is pinched through the gorge just upstream, forcing massive amounts of water through a small space and creating Class V whitewater.
We will then come back and continue downstream towards Devil's Hole State Park. This is over 2km. Again the trail is in a poor state and will require considerable skill. You will have to be careful and vigilant.
At Devil's Hole State Park we will take the stairs back up to the top of the gorge. We will follow the rim trail back to Whirlpool State Park. This is an easy well maintained section.
From there we will continue on to Niagara Gorge Discovery Center, which is about 3.5 km. Optionally, people can walk further to check out Niagara Falls from the American side, hang around, eat etc.

This hike is suitable for individuals with considerable hiking experience and/or who are physically fit. Pace will be moderate. Group size will be small.
