Bruce Trail: Screaming Ghost Tunnel & Lunch @ Benchmark Restaurant (23 KM) (6/14/2014)

Itinerary:

CARPOOL LEAVES KIPLING STATION @ 8:00 AM

Distance: 12 km (2 km road walking) before lunch, 11 km (5 km road walking) after lunch = 23 KM

PACE: Moderate to quick pace

Terrain: Its the bruce trail, so expect a lot of mud, rocks and hills. Highest climb will be approx. 120 meters. Hiking shoes or boots are a good idea.

INTERMEDIATE OR ADVANCED HIKERS ONLY!!!

This hike will be a combination in-out, with a loop totaling 23 km and heading to a restaurant/winery for lunch. You must be willing to walk the entire distance and there will be no drop offs.

We'll be going to the Benchmark Restaurant @ the Niagara College Teaching Winery for lunch, before marking our way back to the cars. Check out their lunch menu here: http://www.niagaracollege.ca/content/Services/TeachingEnterprises/BenchmarkRestaurant/Menus.aspx

Individuals willing to drive will get priority on the wait list, if required.

DRIVERS, WHEN YOU SIGN UP, PLEASE WRITE IN THE NOTES SECTION, THE AMOUNT OF PASSENGERS YOU CAN TAKE IN YOUR CAR, or else you may be moved to the wait list until this is completed!!!

For those choosing to just meet at the event, please come on time, because we will not wait for you if you are late.

Also, there are no washrooms at the start point of this hike

How to Get There:

  • Event Directions: Leaving Kipling - Exit the TTC Parking Lot and travel out to Dundas Avenue.
  • Go left at Dundas (west) for about 2 km
  • Take the 427 Southbound to the QEW (Queen Elizabeth Way).
  • Exit at the QEW and follow it WEST for appox. 38 km
  • When the highway forks, continue to follow the signs for QEW to Niagara.
  • Follow the QEW for 61 KM, until you get to the exit to Glendale Ave. NORTH, towards Niagara-On-The-Lake - Exit 38B
  • Turn right onto Glendale for 500 meters
  • Turn right onto York Road and follow it east for 6 km until Concession Road 2
  • Look for roadside parking on the North Side
