Itinerary:

During this hike, we'll walk in three cities: Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton.

We'll meet near the Humber North Campus in Toronto, at the intersection of Humberline Dr & Humber College Blvd (10:45 AM). We'll then proceed towards the 250-acre Humber Arboretum, which consists of botanical gardens and natural areas surrounding the West Humber River.

Next, we'll hike along the West Humber River Valley, towards the Humberwoods Park. On our way to the Indian Line Campground, we'll come across the Claireville Dam & Reservoir, constructed in the aftermath of Hurricane Hazel.

Finally, we'll reach the Claireville Conservation Area, which is an 848-acre natural and forested area located on the border of Toronto and Brampton. It is one of the largest tracts of land owned by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA). An unsupervised conservation area, it supposedly has coyotes and deer (I've only seen a few bird species, though). It also features a ranch (currently closed due to weather); the dogs must be on leash in the Ranch area.

We'll end our journey around Steeles Ave W & Albion Rd/Hwy 50, from where you can walk to a TTC or Brampton Transit bus stop. (This is not a loop hike.)

Of course, the snow will be gone by the 20th! The Claireville Dam picture is from March.

FAQ

How difficult is this hike?
This is a moderate 15 km hike. Although the trail is not marked, the path is flat and we'll walk at a comfortable pace of 4 km/hr. There are only a couple of slopes to climb. The only challenge is offered by the mud in some places (due to the melting snow, marshy area or water from the river/reservoir). At these places, bushwalking might be required to avoid the mud. At one point, you'll be required to jump over a (not-too-high) fence.

Are there any washrooms on the trail?
No. Trees and bushes are your best friends.

What if I get tired along the way?
You can abandon the hike and catch TTC (available at ~1/4th of the path) or Brampton Transit (available at ~1/2 of the path).

How do I get back home?
This is not a loop hike. It'll end somewhere near Highway 50/Albion at Steeles Ave. You can catch TTC (#96 from Albion Rd) or Brampton Transit (#11/#50) to reach home.
