Itinerary:

Are you thinking of becoming a TOC volunteer to run overnight, backpacking events? Or are you a TOC volunteer who would like to start organizing backpacking events ? Then this event is for you !

This event is designed for

1. Members who want to become TOC volunteers primarily to coordinate overnight trips. You must have prior camping experience to be eligible for this event. You must also have done at least 5 outdoor events and 2 overnight outdoor events with the TOC.

2. Current TOC volunteers who have been running mainly day events and want to start organizing overnight events in the back country. You must have done ( not necessarily organized) at least 2 overnight outdoor events, preferably with the TOC.

Anyone not falling in 1. or 2. above will be moved to the waiting list for now.

At the mandatory pre-meeting we will go over the club's guidelines and policies and the next steps to becoming a volunteer. We will also go through the essential checkpoints for coordinating an overnight trip.Specific details of our backpacking event at the Kawartha Highlands will be discussed at the pre-meeting too.

The Plan:

We will backpack along Eel's Creek to High Falls through beautiful forests, creek crossings, rocky ridges and beaver dams in true Canadian Shield country. This is close to a special, spiritual place-the Petroglyphs Park which is home to the largest known concentration of Aboriginal sacred rock carvings in Canada. Although the Petroglyphs park will be closed for the season,we may do a hike from High Falls to the park. Details will be discussed at the pre-meeting.

We will leave Toronto on Saturday morning and head to Northeys Bay where we will start our trip.We will backpack around 6- K to High Falls on Saturday and camp there. We may hike on the trails in the area after setting up camp on Saturday and on Sunday morning before heading home to Toronto.

A pre-meeting for this trip will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 7:00pm to discuss car pooling arrangements, trip expectation and route, food planning and equipment at Chalkers Pub Billiards & Bistro,247 Marlee Avenue,North York. If you are unable to make the pre- meeting please don't sign up as a significant part of the planning and overview of the TOC will be discussed at this meeting.
