Itinerary:

This is the second in a series of relaxed urban exploration walks in which you get to see Toronto with your own eyes while being guided gently along a planned route. Cameras are welcome but not mandatory.

We will be visiting the Brick Graveyard, more formally known as the Leslie Street Spit or Tommy Thompson Park or the Outer Harbour East Headland. It is a 5km long man-made headland extending from the city's east end in a roughly southwesterly direction into Lake Ontario.

The walk is 12km from Leslie Street and Lakeshore Blvd to the old lighthouse at the tip of Tommy Thompson Park and back. Basically we will walk directly south to the park entrance and then to the end of the park (5km) and back again. The walk will end at the starting point

Notes:

  • This will be a SLOW hike with LOTS OF STOPS. Do not come on this hike if you are looking for a workout.
  • The hike will go forward regardless of the weather. Most of the walk will be on paved surfaces with some gravel areas near the tip of the headland.
  • Because we are walking SLOWLY and will be surrounded by water, it might get REALLY COLD, depending on what this year's freakish weather decides to give us. So dress appropriately! You will not be able to count on body warmth being generated by activity on this hike.
  • No dogs are permitted on this hike. The biggest reason is that no dogs are allowed in the park as it is a bird sanctuary.
  • Bathrooms can be found at the Tim Horton's and there are supposed to be portable washrooms in the park but I cannot confirm this, don't know their locations and don't know the condition that they are in.
  • More information on the park is available at http://www.tommythompsonpark.ca/home /index.dot.

Because of the popularity of these events, a no-show will be awarded to anyone who does not remove themselves from the event prior to the Registration Cut-Off. No Exceptions!
