Itinerary:

Spring is in the air... Let's ride out to the Tommy Thompson Park (Leslie Spit) and greet the migrating birds returning for the summer.

We will meet at the South West corner of Lake Shore Blvd East and Leslie street, just outside the Canadian Tire and Starbucks at 10:30am on Saturday morning. From there, we will ride the short length of the Leslie Spit on bike lanes. Biking the Leslie spit will be at the pace of the slowest rider, and will only be about 11 km long.

After we have finished biking the short length of the Leslie Spit, those of us willing to go the extra mile may ride to the Village of Punjab at 1515 Birchmount rd for a yummy vegetarian Indian buffet lunch ($9). I always feel less guilty going to this buffet if I have ridden my bike all the way there. On the way back, it's also mostly downhill which helps a lot when riding on a full stomach. If you want to ride with me to the buffet, it will probably be an additional 16 km each way, partially through city streets. You must be comfortable riding on busy city streets at a reasonable pace to come to the buffet. Of course, after the buffet you can choose to ride to a closer destination (including the Warden subway station).

To participate in this event it is mandatory to wear a bicycle helmet at all times while on a bicycle. Please do not show up without a bicycle helmet, as you will not be able to participate in the event. You should also have an extra bicycle tube appropriate for your bikes tires. It is also important to bring at least 1 lt of water and layered clothing suitable for riding in windy weather. If you want to come to the buffet after the Leslie Spit, you will also need $9.

As a side note: If you are interested in doing some bike touring this spring/summer, bring your ideas. I'm especially interested in bike trips that don't involve carpools (using only bicycles and trains/buses.)
