The Caledon Trailway Path (11/6/2011)

Itinerary:
For this hike, we will explore the first 20 km of the Caledon Trailway. This trail is made from an abandoned railway, originally built in 1877 and was in use for over 100 years!

It should make for a nice, flat and fast hike passing a variety of landscapes: farms, meadows, forests and wetlands. We'll stop on the trail for lunch about half way though the hike. At the end of the trail, the car shuttle will bring the drivers back to the start to pick up their cars, and then return to the end for the passengers. We will then have coffee/snacks at a nearby café where we can work out carpool and chat about the day's adventure.

We will aim to be back in the city by 6:30, however, it would be wise to not make plans for the early evening, as depending on weather, overall group speed, etc., may mean we won't be back until later.

  • We will travel at ~ 5 km/hour.
  • We will travel as a GROUP. (If you want to go slower or faster than the stated speed, please don't sign up for this hike.)
  • This is an End-to-End hike with a car shuttle.
  • No drop outs.
  • If you don't have previous TOC experience with this distance/speed, please indicate in the Notes when signing up what equivalent experience you have.
  • Hike will go rain or shine.
Please do not sign up for this hike unless you have checked your calendar first and you are committed to attending. TOC No Show policy will be in effect.
