Itinerary:

This is it! Last (or First, depending on your point of view) section of the Bruce Trail. From Brock University campus, we'll hike 26km to the southern terminus of the Bruce Trail, at the Brock Memorial on Queenston Heights (BTC Map Ref: Sheets 1 and 2), right on the Niagara River.

The hike could be technically challenging at this time of year, and we'll keep it moving at a steady pace of around 4.5kph overall - this includes stoppage time for lunch, water breaks, so the actual hiking pace could be as high as 6kph. As always with the Bruce, it is very likely to be muddy, so appropriate footwear is a must - anyone with running shoes will be turned back at carpool...

This will be a one-way hike involving car shuttles between the start and end points, so bring a windbreaker (and a dry shirt) to wear while waiting for the drivers to retrieve the cars at the end of the day. After the hike, we'll head to The Old Firehall Restaurant, in nearby St David's, 5 minutes west of our hike end point, for a pint and a bite to eat.

This is an all day event, with no guaranteed time we'll be back in Toronto - don't make any plans that require you to be somewhere early in the evening (before 10:00pm).

This event is for intermediate to experienced hikers who are comfortable maintaining the stated pace for 5-6 hours. Please don't sign up if you are a beginner or a slower hiker - you will be removed without notice.

Please note the early start time - this is so that we can finish the hike in daylight, now that sunset is an hour earlier than we've been used to for the past months.

Previous TOC or equivalent experience hiking at this difficulty level is a pre-requisite - no exceptions. If you do not have TOC experience, note your equivalent when you sign up and the coordinator will follow-up to confirm; the coordinator will NOT follow up with members who do not indicate their experience.

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $70.18 (calculated at total Km * $0.258, effective Monday, May 6, 2024). Notes:
  • Because of the need for enough cars to support the end-to-end shuttle, it may be necessary to replace a passenger already on the event list with a driver from the waiting list. In this case, the Last In-First Out model will be used.
