Itinerary:
You’re thinking: “Hey, Hallowe’en is around the corner, chocolate is going to be coming out of my ears very soon!” And I’m thinking “That’s OK, leave this hike to those of us who don’t have kids to ‘borrow’ from, or who won’t end up buying way-too-much-candy to give out on Oct. 31, (or maybe) who just plain never heard of ‘too much chocolate’!”

Besides, we’re talking quality chocolate. Specialty chocolate shops. No offence, but no Laura Secord stops on this hike. Close your eyes and imagine these flavours melting in your mouth: chai tea chocolate; white chocolate with lavender; ice wine truffles; espresso crisp truffle; turtle delight fudge!

Toronto (it turns out) is home to quite the array of quality chocolate shops, but they’re not all huddled together in one spot. So like any other self-respecting Canadian in mid-November, we will make a hike out of it. Here's the plan: Buy a chocolate, hike a couple of km to burn it off, buy another chocolate, hike some more… you get the picture! It’s the ultimate guilt-free, gourmet, chocolate day! And there’s really only one way to recover after such a grueling day of hiking the unforgiving urban pavement: let’s get off our feet and relax at the downtown Richtree. There in the warmth, we can enjoy truffles, hot chocolate, crepes with strawberries and chocolate sauce (and on the off-chance that by then you can’t stand the thought of one more chocolate … they have loads of other stuff, too !)

Here’s the ‘Stuff You Need To Know’:
  • We’ll be hiking ~ 13km at ~ 3.5km/hr (almost 4 hours of hiking)
  • Added time for browsing/purchasing = ~ 2 hours
  • We’ll be visiting about 10-11 shops plus Richtree
  • Start: 10AM @ Yonge/Eglinton. Exact meet location will be emailed to signed up participants.
  • End: Approx 5PM @ Union Stn.
  • Drop outs are allowed at subway stations, but preference will be given to those who wish to hike the whole distance. Please indicate in the 'Notes' section if you plan to attend the whole day or not.
