| The skiing season is now in full swing, and those of you who have made it out to some of the local resorts may be looking for an even bigger skiing adventure in the weeks and months ahead. If so, THERE ARE STILL SOME SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR THIS EVENT. IF YOU HAVE SOME VACATION DAYS THAT YOU CAN USE IN FEBRUARY, DO JOIN US FOR SOME SPECTACULAR CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING IN THE LAURENTIANS!! IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN THERE, YOU ARE IN FOR A TREAT! NOTE THE UPCOMING PAYMENT CUT-OFF DATE OF JANUARY 5, 2010. We will set off early on Monday, February 15, 2010, Family Day (a public holiday), for the Laurentians, a wonderful winter wonderland north of Montreal, where we will indulge in nearly a full week of cross-country skiing. We will return to Toronto late on Sunday, February 21st. While we will have our home base in St. Adele, at the Hotel P'tit Train du Nord, we will be heading off to different cross-country ski trails on each day of our stay, as there are many such skiing options in the area. On Monday evening, the night of our arrival, each separate carpool group will be responsible for its own supper. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, we will have continental breakfasts at the hotel. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, we will each take a bag-lunch from the hotel and have a full dinner at the hotel. On Saturday evening, we will either go out for supper at a restaurant in St. Adele, or we will prepare supper collectively at the hotel (we can use the kitchen). For information on the hotel, please type the following url into your web-brower: http://www.petit-train-du-nord.com The hotel has a lovely common room with a fireplace, and each night of the week we will be free to use the common room and play board games. I will be bringing my scrabble board and a chess board. Other participants are asked to bring a game or two of their own (let the event organizer know which games you are bringing). Note: This is a cross-country skiing event, NOT a downhill skiing event. Do NOT sign up for this event if you wish to do downhill skiing. You must take four (4) days off of work in order to participate in this event. February 15th is a public holiday (Family Day); if you have it off, then you need to take only four vacation days in order to participate in the event. This event is described as "moderate to difficult" in level of difficulty. The event is thus not suitable for absolute beginners or those who do not have a reasonable amount of cross-country skiing experience. While we may be skiing in small groups during this event, there may also be occasions when individuals will be skiing independently. The event organizer is not undertaking to supervise or train participants in the event. Each participant should be capable of skiing independently, if necessary, and of taking full responsibility for himself/herself. And each participant should use his/her own judgment in determining which ski trails are or are not appropriate given the skier's level of ability and experience. When you sign up for this event, you should carefully consider whether you have the necessary skiing skill and experience in order to participate in the event. Be honest with yourself as to your level of experience and skill. Remember, we will be in the Laurentians, and the geopraphy in the Laurentians is hilly. Therefore the cross-country skiing is likely to require at least a moderate level of skill and experience. | |||||||
