Itinerary:

From the parking lot on Glen Rd, just east of Ball's Falls CA, we'll hike a distance of about 23 km to Brock University campus.

The hike could be technically challenging at this time of year, and we'll keep it moving at a steady pace of around 4.5kph overall - this includes stoppage time for lunch, water breaks, so the actual hiking pace could be as high as 6kph. As always with the Bruce, it is very likely to be muddy, so appropriate footwear is a must.

This will be a one-way hike involving car shuttles between the start and end points, so bring a light sweater or windbreaker to wear while waiting for the drivers to retrieve the cars at the end of the day. After the hike, we'll remove ourselves to Patrick Sheehan's Irish Pub, on St. Paul St, 3 minutes north of our hike end point, for a pint and a bite to eat.

This event is for intermediate to experienced hikers who are comfortable maintaining the stated pace for 5-6 hours. Please don't sign up if you are a beginner or a slower hiker - you will be removed without notice.

Previous TOC or equivalent experience hiking at this difficulty level is a pre-requisite - no exceptions. If you do not have TOC experience, note your equivalent when you sign up and the coordinator will follow-up to confirm; the coordinator will NOT follow up with members who do not indicate their experience.

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $65.79 (calculated at total Km * $0.258, effective Sunday, April 28, 2024). This is based on $0.08/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Your event coordinator will confirm exactly how much money is required from each person.

Notes:
  • Because of the need for enough cars to support the end-to-end shuttle, it may be necessary to replace a passenger already on the event list with a driver from the waiting list. In this case, the Last In-First Out model will be used.
  • There will be a parking fee for the car(s) left at Brock University - this amount will be added to the carpool sum, and divided between all participants. The actual amount is not known at this time but should be less than $1 per person.
