Itinerary:
Have you ever wanted to cycle through cornfields within the City of Toronto? Well now is your chance! And you’ll also get to cycle through cornfields in York and Durham counties too… along a route with little traffic. There is only one very short section with a fair amount of traffic when we cross the 401. In some cases we will be cycling on (good) dirt road. In fact, I felt safe flying down a hill at 35 km/hr on my street bike with its skinny tires. Think well maintained rail trail - with about as much traffic.
We will meet at Union Station at the GO ticket wickets in the lower level - near Bay Street, at 9:50am about 20 minutes before the train leaves. We will buy return tickets and use the elevator to get our bikes to the platform. Ideally, there should only be a maximum of 4 bikes to a carriage, two at each end. Bikes are places behind and in front of the 2 vertical steel poles, next to the seats as you walk in the door. Please allow passengers to get on board first. After a 30-minute train ride we will disembark at the Rouge Hill station
If you would like, you can meet us at Rouge Hill GO Station at 10:40 am
We will ride north through eastern Scarborough through rural Markham and into Pickering Township. I will provide maps so that those who want to go faster can. We will have lunch at the Old Brock Café and Pizzeria, in the town of Claremont. We will then retrace our route, including an optional stop at the ice cream stand in village of Whitevale.
We will probably catch the 5:07 or the 6:07 pm train back to Union station. If we have time the inclination we can explore the nearby Rouge beach on Lake Ontario.
If people want we can eat dinner some place back in Toronto.

If you have not ridden with me before, you MUST answer the following questions in the notes sections of the sign up page: 1. Do you agree to wear a bicycle helmet? 2. Are you experienced, comfortable, and safe riding in traffic i.e. with automobiles? 3. Are you able to bring a spare tube for your bicycle? 4. Does your bicycle fit properly? 5. Is your bicycle in decent shape ie no rusty chain etc, working brakes?

Bicycle helmet, Water, Spare tube, Sun block, snacks, bicycle lock. $25 for ticket and lunch. An additional $15 to $20 if you are thinking about dinner too.
