Itinerary:

We'll begin at the Devil's Glen Provincial Park, start off with a climb up a ski hill into the Nottawasaga Bluffs Conservation Area, take the Keyhole Side Trail passing through small crevices and narrow openings in the rock, visit the bluffs, and take the Mad River Side Trail along the Mad River back to our starting point. Along the way we'll pass by forested slopes, rock outcrops, steep gorges, rivers, and have a stunning lunch spot overlooking the escarpment.

This is a moderate hike that is suitable for intermediate hikers and fit beginners. It is not suitable for hikers that like to walk at a slow pace. The 14 day forecast for the area is 25°, a mix of sun and clouds. This is a "fair weather" hike, it will be cancelled in the event of bad weather.

Waitlist Policy

Maximum group size is set to 1, so everyone starts on the waitlist. Passengers will be added as drivers become available. This is a carpool only event, there is no meet-at- event option.

Please note that late cancellations are a problem for the organizer. They are also a problem for people on the waitlist who may lose out on a spot. So please, if you must cancel, give as much notice as you can. I won't take members whose signup history shows that they are unreliable. If you must cancel after the registration cut-off on the Friday, please do so by text or email (not voice message).

Precautions Against Ticks

Ticks are a growing problem across southern Ontario.

Wear long pants. Tuck your shirt into your pants, and pull your socks over your pant legs. Wear light coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily. Use bug spray containing DEET or Icaridin on your skin and clothing. Avoid tall grass.

Check yourself for ticks after the event. If you find an attached tick, remove it with tweezers. If a tick is attached to your skin for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting Lyme disease is extremely small. Check here for more information about how to stay safe.
