The 14 day forecast is 20° and sunny, so a great day for a hike. We'll have a stunning lookout spot for lunch, the highlight will be passing through a narrow rock crevice in the shape of a keyhole. This is a carpool only event, there is no meet- at- event option. We can accommodate as many hikers as we have drivers for, but because we need to make sure we have enough drivers, everyone will go on the waitlist, and be added as drivers become available. The terrain is variable, two hills including a climb up a ski hill, otherwise easy. Distance is about 16 km, pace is 4- 4.5 km/h. This hike is suitable for intermediate hikers and fit beginners who like to keep to a moderate pace. It is not suitable for hikers who prefer a slow pace. We will meet at the Devil's Glen Provincial Park, start off with a climb up the escarpment past the Devil's Glen Ski area and into the Nottawasaga Bluffs Conservation Area, take the Keyhole Side Trail passing through small crevices and narrow openings in the rock, visit the bluffs, and take the Mad River Side Trail along the Mad River back to our starting point. PRECAUTIONS AGAINST TICKSTicks are a growing problem across southern Ontario. Wear long pants. Tuck your shirt into your pants, and pull your socks over your pant legs. Wear light coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily. Use bug spray containing DEET or Icaridin on your skin and clothing. Avoid tall grass. Check yourself for ticks after the event. If you find an attached tick, remove it with tweezers. If a tick is attached to your skin for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting Lyme disease is extremely small. Check here for more information about how to stay safe. | |||||||
