Itinerary:

We’ll hike the Bruce Trail from Limehouse Conservation Area to Speyside and back.

Limehouse offers an opportunity to explore a little of the past: the remnants of the lime industry’s huge lime kilns, an old powderhouse, and the railroad bed of the old Toronto Suburban Radial Railway (electric, running twice daily Guelph to Toronto, put out of business essentially due to nearby Hwy 7, closed in 1931.)

Four kms south near Speyside, we’ll follow the side trails (with some rocky sections) before returning to the Limehouse Conservation Area on the main Bruce Trail. Towards the end of our hike we’ll pass through the Hole in the Wall, climbing on two ladders, and past a series of rock fissures.

The terrain is mostly flat with some rocky sections. This hike is suitable for strong beginner and intermediate hikers. Bruce Trail map 12.

To finish off the trip, there's an option for ice cream treats in Georgetown at Whimsy Street Treats.

PRECAUTIONS AGAINST TICKS

Wear long pants. Tuck your shirt into your pants, and pull your socks over your pant legs. Wear light coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily. Use bug spray containing DEET or Icaridin on your skin and clothing. Avoid tall grass.

Check yourself for ticks immediately after the event, you can ask me for help for removal. When you get home, shower and do a full body check, if you find a tick, remove it with tweezers. If a tick is attached to your skin for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting Lyme disease is negligible.

For more information, see Ticks
