Itinerary:

So, this is my second attempt at taking members of the TOC to the Niagara Gorge, Glen, Whirlpool & Falls.
I'm still working out the kinks in this hike, but hoping for a good experience.

This 17 KM hike will start at Niagara Falls VIA Rail Station and end directly at Niagara Falls, in front of the falls at Table Rock Centre
It will be up to participants to get themselves back to the Via rail station.
I will end beside the WEGO bus stop (GREEN LINE) in front of the falls at Table Rock Centre
with enough time for participants to explore the area, before heading back to the train station for the 9:17 PM departure.

SEE BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION REGARDING BUYING WEGO & GO TRAIN TICKETS.

So, this hike is kinda weird.
I've rated this hike as a D4, partly because of the 17 KM length.
Also, because there is a 5 KM section that is very sketchy and rocky and challenging.
On the other hand, 12 KM of this hike are on wide paved trails and would be considered fairly easy.

HERE'S MY GENERAL ITINERARY FOR THE DAY

  • Meet at Niagara Falls Via Rail Station @ 12 PM
  • Walk around the whirlpool and stop at Niagara Glen
  • Stop for lunch - please bring your own
  • Tour through Niagara Glen
  • Challenge ourselves with the trail to the Whirlpool
  • Hike the final 8 KM down to the Niagara Falls @ Table Rock and end hike
  • Then you should have about 3 hours to mill about, do touristy things, maybe grab dinner and find your own way back to the Via Rail Station
  • GO train back to Toronto leaves at 9:15 PM.

Otherwise, this hike will be on a combination of wide paved trails and single track dirt / rocky trails.

In terms of hills, there should be a few challenging ups and downs, climbing through the valley.
Toughest climb will about a 110 meter climb out of gorge

I'll attempt to stop for a washroom break at Niagara Glen about 5 KM into the hike.

    Event Directions:

We'll meet at the front of the Niagara Falls VIA rail station. I've timed this hike, so that we can meet after the GO train has arrived, plus any minor delays.

If you take the 9:05 AM train from Union Station, you should be able to reach by the start time.

To pay for the GO Train & WEGO bus, I recommend pre-purchasing either a 1 DAY TRAVEL PACKAGE from Niagara Parks for $20.00
    THIS PASS INCLUDES:
Round Trip Tickets for the direct to Niagara Falls GO Train
Unlimited 1-day Niagara Falls WEGO Bus Access

'HERE'S THE LINK TO PURCHASE. '

Look for me in the BLUE Toronto Outdoor Club shirt at the entrance to the station.

For those of you driving, Niagara Falls VIA Rail station is located at 4267 Bridge St, which is about a 2 hour drive from Toronto.
