Write Up:

The weather forecast was more than ominous for this evening and I got many calls from new members who did not want to risk the drive, but were very disappointed that they would miss the event. I briefly considered cancelling the event as I was not sure if anyone would make it. But, we've got snow tires and actually love to drive in challenging conditions so we carried on. I had no internet so I wasn't sure if we'd be the only ones there, but when we arrived there were at least four people there, some familiar faces and some new members, eager to find out all there is to know. They came prepared with questions and I tried to answer with help from Julian and Dominic. We found our new members to be enthusiastic and they all carried the TOC spirit just for making it under such awful conditions! Those that didn't make it will just have to come back next month - there are no penalties for not showing up to these events. And hopefully we'll have even more representatives from our volunteer team to answer questions and take suggestions

It seems we have a wide range of new members - we asked what they were looking for in an outdoor club and answers ranged from getting away from it all and learning a new appreciation of nature, to finding new challenges and activities to try, to meeting friends with similar interests and creating opportunities to go camping and hiking and canoeing this summer. Questions asked of us were the usual - what's with all the waitlists, what does it take to be a volunteer and how does the carpool work, for example. If you don't know the answers to these, perhaps you should make it to one of our meet & greet events!

All in all, I think that everyone went home satisfied and looking forward to signing up to some future events...well, as soon as the weather improves a bit...
