Well, the small but dedicated team from TOC moved the Habitat Brampton Elliott House project forward another step. The work crews spent the day pointing the bricks – who knew that one colours new mortar with soy sauce to get it to match old? – deconstructing used concrete forms to reuse the lumber and screws (reduce, reuse, recycle), and removing the keys (wooden battens) from within the first round of concrete pillars which will become part of the foundation. Jennifer K is a wizard with a mallet, and Tera got totally engrossed in the brick repointing process.

We had a glorious day – probably the last this season – sunny, warm (at least one minor case of sunburn was recorded) and wind-free; a perfect day to be outside and contributing to the community. We were joined by a group of students from UWO who had driven up from London for the occasion, leaving their end at 6:30. If anyone tells you that youth today are not community spirited, tell ‘em they’re talking rubbish!

Custom grilled burgers and hotdogs gave us a welcome break at lunchtime – we don’t slum it on a Habitat site ;-) – and a never-ending supply of chocolate chip or oatmeal cookies kept the workers happy.

Pictures have been posted so take a look at what we accomplished, and feel free to join up for the next event, which will likely be when the interior of the house is well on its way to completion.

Please note that we prefer to receive the photos in approximately 640x480 or 750x500 pixels - do NOT send original high-res photos. If you have a LOT of photos, please submit up to twenty of your favorites (only) for a day event, or up to forty of your favourites for a multi-day event. Thank you.
