First, a warning: Anyone who thinks that signing up for a TOC movie event will be an easy first event will be mistaken, as we learned on this night! We had 11 people expected but by the cut off time only three people made it to the meeting spot! Jessica and Susan bravely approached me, asking "ummm, are you Steph?" and were relieved that they got the right person. SilverCity Yorkdale is a busy place on a Friday night and if you don't know who to look for, or you forgot your instructions at home, it's easy to miss the TOC group!

Let's backtrack to an earlier moment when I was buying my ticket...a woman approached me at the kiosk and asked what movie I was planning to see - when I told her "The Bourne Ultimatum" she got all excited and informed me that she just finished watching it, and I was going to LOVE IT!!! I thanked her for the info, although I had absolutely no doubts that this wouldn't be a thrilling edge-of-my-seat cinematic ride. After collecting Jessica, Susan and Jose, we bought our snacks and headed to the theatre - already packed 30 minutes before showtime, we got somewhat decent seats and saved one for Saif, who was running late. There were more people expected, but we just couldn't find room for them and Saif called me and asked to save him a seat. Since we'll be losing Saif at the end of September I felt obliged to be nice to him.

Jessica and Susan were both Bourne fans, and we all talked about how we stumbled onto the first movie almost by accident. For me it was a hot summer day and the promise of a cool theatre - it was the only movie playing that looked OK. The theatre was nearly empty and I was hooked. What a difference to this night, where the theatre was packed.

And Bourne did not disappoint - from the moment the movie begins it is all action - the plot is simple - and they tie up some loose ends from the last two movies so we get some answers as to Bourne's identity, but it looks like the Bourne franchise will continue. For those that have never seen a Bourne movie, it's a grittier James Bond, with less fantastical plots, no time for sex and martinis seemingly realistic, as long as you suspend your belief long enough to accept Bourne as some sort of superhuman outsider. Oh, and Matt Damon is perfectly suited for this role, he IS Jason Bourne.

After the movie, Susan, Saif, Jose and I decided to head over to the Pickle Barrel and we were joined by a "mystery guest" Alla, who wasnt' signed up for the movie, but decided to come anyways. So although we missed the majority of our group, we picked up an extra person. The post film conversation was lively and buzzing and while some members weren't as impressed with the film as I was, we all agreed it was an entertaining and fun way to spend a Friday evening!
