The two lead vehicles arrived at the Devil's Lake entrance first. While waiting for the remaining two vehicles to arrive, swarms of black flies seemed to follow one around if you stayed in one place too long. We were kept entertained by Rocky and Trixie, whom ran around chasing each other and play fighting.

After all had arrived we were treated to an outstanding hike, with breathtaking scenery. We walked over exposed Canadian shield rock faces, traversed three beaver dams, shinnied down a small cliff with the help of a birch tree, mucked thorough water filled ATV ruts, and crossed several small streams.

The intrepid team had lunch on a steep rock incline where the brisk breeze kept the blackflies mostly at bay. After finishing lunch we found that the end of our planned hike was just over the rise. We carried on a little further and found a rocky, mossy, and mostly barren landscape that was just begging to be a location for some crime thriller movie.

We finished off the hike by retracing our steps back to the transport vehicles, after a brief break atop a rise overlooking a lake and a beaver dam.
