Sun, Jul 14 2013 - End to end - Glen Haffy/Palgrave Conservation Areas (View Original Event Details)
|
Sundays beginning was starting out to be a great TOC day. Downsview subway station was hopping with volunteers and their events for all skill levels.
Our group started the hike along a ridge of a field in Mono Mills. We quickly descended the valley that yielded some welcoming shade from the +30 temps. Before entering the valley we took a brief moment to enjoy the spectacular views our vantage point had to offer.
After sometime of exploring the valley and streams we then began our trek through Glen Haffy . With relentless bugs in tow we trekked through the conservation area stopping only once for a quick picnic and a water tap refreshment.
Exiting the picnic area of Glen Haffy , we stayed on course setting a good pace of 4.5 km/hr, despite the unwavering heat. Our next trail leading us to Palgrave side trail was again well shaded , the trail then gave us a break from the terrain we earlier experienced in the valley.
Our arrival at Palgrave wilderness area was a welcoming sight knowing we had completed our distance of 18.25 kms, a mere 1.25 longer than the posted length of 17km.
On the way back to our carpool drop off we made a scheduled stop at Happy Days ice cream parlour, which proved to be rewarding as well as greatly refreshing
Thanks to our attending members the TOC raised $16.50 in donations.
A special thanks go out to our carpool drivers and all who attended my first “on my own hike” . Please check out the photos taken by Florin and other attending members. Great pics guys.
