Write Up:

Old Man Winter gave the TOC its first taste of winter hiking, as seven hardy TOC members ventured into the snow-covered Hockley Valley. A well-traveled trail meant that the snow was well packed and sometimes slippery, giving Chuck a good test for his snow treads. The snow on the forest floor and a small number of other groups using the trail made for a peaceful hike, with the silence broken only by our conversation and Steph’s calls for Rocky the Trailblazer to get some treats. The weather for the trip was cool but perfect for a brisk hike. And despite the weatherman’s (weatherperson’s?) ominous predictions, the rain held off until the trip home.

[thanks to J-L for this descriptive write up!]

The hike was great, slippery because of the snow, which made it more challenging. The scenery with the snow and the water was very different from previous hikes, and the bridges over the stream added another dimension to the hike, an addition to the hills that we went up and down.

[thanks to Mihal for her additional description!]

How could we forget about the grand finale of the hike, when Rocky found a dead porcupine much to our mutual disgust. Luckily he was too tired to fight over it and reluctantly dropped it. Oh the joys of being a pet owner!
