Finally, the cold spell has brought us a perfect evening for skating!! Of course, we were not the only group to think that, as there was a line up out the door for rentals by 8pm. We had a big turnout, with some old standbys from last year's skating nights. David returned to attempt another 'best winter wipeout' award...alas, it was not to be - he stayed on his skates this year. JL and Alana also made it to their second year of skating. Patricia, Tara, Julian, Sivanny and Sue all came back for another skate and we were joined by Grant, who came all the way from the west end for some fresh air, skating and a pint! It was also great to see some new faces, Vikki and Nick made it back to their second skating and second TOC event. Saif and Hong showed up...with skates this time! Linda impressed many of us with her skating skills - she can really move out there! The ice surface was packed, and even though it was just zambonied before the evening began, it was quickly turned to mush and snow. But we all managed to fit in about an hour or so of skating, and everytime I wanted to collect our group all I needed to do was sit down, and eventually people would stop and join me. It made me feel so important, but it was more likely that I wear a unique hat. We managed to collect most people and arrange to meet inside at the bar, another TOC skating night highlight. I tried to get everyone together for a group photo, but our official photographer for the evening, Cynthia, got too cold and waited for us inside. We eventually got cold butts waiting around and went to join her.

It was packed in the bar as well, but TOCers have a knack for finding a table for nearly 20 of us. And look, there's Sara! She had shown up late, missed us in the changerooms and skating on her own for a while - look for the hat, next time...and whereever a large group of people are milling around it could be the TOC....Luckily, Sara is a veteran TOC member so she knew we'd end up in the bar sooner or later.

There's one more DJ night coming in March, so be sure to sign up - there's plenty of room for everyone and lots of great conversation and socializing afterwards. And did I mention the free hot chocolate?
