Sun, Mar 18 2012 - Photo Walk 1: Derelict Annex and Junction Triangle (View Original Event Details)
|
The "Derelict Annex and Junction Triangle" walk although inaccurately titled, went well. We had unseasonably lovely warm sunny weather - perfect for a photo walk!
We walk about six kilometres at a very relaxed pace, while attendees snapped photos along the way with any sort of camera they chose to bring. With gentle persuasion, the group was directed to several key sites along the route from Ossington Subway station to Dundas West Subway station. Key sites included visiting:
- some alley ways
- an empty lot once occupied by a Catholic school,
- the ruins of a building next door,
- boarded up townhouses
- a little seen side of Dufferin mall
- an but empty school from the 70s, and
- the industrial and derelict properties on Sterling street, an area bordered by railways and bloor street
The route followed was roughly start at Ossington Station, walk south on Roxton, west through alleys, school yards and residential streets to Dufferin Mall, around the mall continuing west through alleys and yards to the school at Lansdowne and Dundas and then continuing on Dundas Street West to Sterling Ave, north on Sterling, merging with the West Toronto Railpath which was followed to Bloor Street. From here attendees proceeded west on Bloor to Dundas West Station.
The hike started at 2pm and ended by 5:30pm. There were 14
attendees and all had a good time!
