It turned out to be a pretty good day for a hike just to spit the weatherman. We started out building our appetite with a 10km hike through the woods & clearings near Collingwood.

As you can see from the photos (thanks go to Aneta Z for the pics) we immediately encountered many an apple tree on our trek (the ground around them being covered in sweet & sour smelling windfall. Sampling (freshly picked apples) as we went we saw a lot of incredibly old Maple trees along the various winding trails we strolled on. We saw many strange forest berries and flowers on the way as well.

We stopped back at the cars to refresh ourselves and our supplies (having eaten lunch on the trail some way back), and headed back down the trail to where Erik hoped to find the great orchard clearing. An abundance of apple trees of various varieties were found. Though we had to scramble through the bramble of raspberry bushes (some enjoyed the late season for this treat) to reach some of the less picked over trees, it was worth it.

Just as we were finishing up the pillaging of the derelict orchard it started to rain as it had been threatening on and off throughout the day. Luckily we were not far from our vehicles and made it in no time for the journey home.
