Sat, Aug 28 2010 - Cycle on the Erin-Elora Railtrail (85 km) (View Original Event Details)

Event Coordinator(s): Jim O
Participants:Jim O, Tracy, Helene Nicole, Paul McA., Chuck F

Write Up:
The weather was perfect, the trail was in fine condition, Helene was there with her flashy new recumbent bicycle and seemed like royalty once ensconced on its throne-like seat--and we all had a spectacular ride from Erin to Elora and back. It actually turned out to be more like a 90 km ride. This trail is in excellent condition, though here and there one finds a soft spot or two, or some loose gravel. The trail borders along Bellwood Lake and towards the western side of the trail one finds a bridge over which one has an excellent view of the northernmost section of the Grand River. When we arrived in Elora after negotiating the on-street detour through downtown Fergus, we discovered that the Old Mill Inn was already booked for a private event, so we stopped for lunch at another establishment, and enjoyed the food and the opportunity to recharge our batteries. The ride back was slightly more downhill than the ride there had been, and so the return speed, at least for Jim O and Tracy, who was clipping at his heels, was slightly faster. This rail trail ranks with the best of them. Try it out sometime.
