Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..................
That's the sound made by 11 tired, happy hikers as they slip into the hot pool at the Scandinave Spa.
We had a gorgeous day for hiking on the Bruce Trail - warm, sunny, not too humid, no bugs, few other hikers. After getting back onto the main Bruce Trail via the John Haigh Side Trail, and the highest point on the Bruce Trail, we hiked to the Scenic Caves Outlook, taking in the splendid views of the land to the south of Collingwood and Stayner, and later, across Georgian Bay to the area between Blue Water Beach and Christian Island. A couple of the braver group members tried the not-quite-fully-ripened apples from the trees we passed - thankfully, no-one reported any adverse effects. The section through the cross-country ski-trails near Scenic Caves gave us a good impression of the possibilities for winter events once the snow flies (too soon to be thinking of that yet :-)
Throughout the hike, several members mentioned they were along for the spa experience, putting the Scandinave Spa under serious pressure to live up to very high expectations. It did not fail to deliver! The Spa was an absolute treat at the end of a long hike. Hot soaking pools, cold plunge pools, a Finnish dry sauna, a eucalyptus-scented Turkish steam sauna, hammocks, chairs, outdoor fire-places, quiet rooms... what more could an intrepid TOC member ask for after a day on the Bruce? 15-20 minutes in a warm environment, followed by 2 minutes in a cold, and then 15-20 minutes of relaxation in a quiet surround was what the staff recommended - and we all did that with a vengeance! The group had to be dragged out after two hours, kicking and screaming, to still give us time to eat before heading back to Toronto, tired but happy.
