Write Up:

The trip to the McMichael Gallery was considered a success by all who participated.

We had a bonus with a retrospective of Norval Morriseau's work, an Ojibway artist who was the first to portray the spiritual world of the eastern woodland peoples - the exhibition covered nearly 40 years of his artistic output. We got to the gallery just as a guided tour of Morriseau's exhibition was starting, and many of the group benefitted from the insight of the two curators who took the party around the galleries.

After the Morriseau exhibits, we moved on to the main collection, the works of the Group of Seven and affiliated artists. It is always a treat to see these works that so well portray the Canadian landscape.

Many of us took advantage of the fine weather and went for a stroll in the Gallery grounds, following the trail that leads along the Humber River.

After we were thrown out of the Gallery at 4pm, we headed into Kleinburg, seeking sustenance. We ended up at the Longchamps Pub, where we were welcomed and served by a delightful Glaswegian lady.

The tour of the collection was interesting to those who were on their first visit to the McMichael Collection, and those who were going back for the nth time. Many thanks to all who came out and made the afternoon such a success.
