Write Up:

The group had a lovely day out. After a leisurely drive from Toronto to Speyside, we hiked at a steady pace, not rushing, taking the time to stop and examine interesting things along the way; a sheepdog and shepherd being trained to manage a flock of sheep was a sight one doesn't see every day...

A couple of hours of steady walking brought us from Speyside to the Limehouse Conservation Area, by way of the Black Creek Side Trail, and the Hole-in-the-Wall. A delightful pot-luck lunch was laid out on a picnic table, and we proceeded to enjoy cold chicken in pesto, courtesy of Dave, tabouleh and mixed bean salads, courtesy of Anne and Don respectively, sausage rolls and cherry tomatoes, contributed by Alison, hummus and baba ganoush, along with pita bread, brought by Lisa, cold shrimp and cocktail sauce, added by Min, bread and cold luncheon meat, carried in by Wen, carrot cake, brought along by Janet, homemade chocolate chip and walnut cookies, made by Anita, and fresh Ontario strawberries, also carried by Lisa. Sadly, no-one thought to bring a bottle of wine... ;-)

There was no organizing required for the picnic, and we ended up with a very well-balanced selection. Everyone brought just a bit more than they would have eaten had each person carried his or her own lunch, but we had a much more sumptuous meal than the normal quick refueling stop we tend to experience on hikes... This was no trouble to organize and is definitely recommended for consideration for future events.

Following a lengthy and well-paced lunch break, and a short siesta in the sun, the group headed back along the Bruce Trail, toward 17th Sideroad, taking the Vanderleck Side Trail as a short detour to lengthen the walk.

Delightful company and an atmosphere of 'no rush' resulted in a lovely day out, well worth repeating in the not too distant future.
