Life in the city gets crazy sometimes! What better way to clear the mind than a 3 day trip into the backcountry? Exactly. There is no better way :)

Nine of us headed to Frontenac on Friday night to attempt the around-the-park loop. The trail on Saturday was fairly easy and we reached our twin campsites on Doe Lake well before sunset. The going was much harder on Sunday because of the hilly and exposed terrain plus hot weather. With daytime running out we decided to camp off-trail close to Big Salmon Lake. We returned to our cars at the Kingsford Dam trail head early on Monday afternoon. Total distance covered over the weekend was about 40km.

Although the hot sunny weather made going more difficult, it also had its benefits: some of us swam in the lakes and all had long, relaxing lunch stops. The bright light allowed our talented photographers to take great pictures - see the (soon to be posted) photo album.

After the trip one of the backpackers contributed a list of Top 10 items learned. Here it goes:

10. the correct way to hold my hiking poles (hands under the straps!)
9. Salt tastes good in food. Not so nice in water.
8. Fresh onions and garlic frying up in the pan couldn't smell better than in the woods!
7. Tin cans do disappear in a fire. Hmmm
6. Huckleberry IS a fruit
5. vaseline has another use - preventing blisters!
4. Snakes can slither and swim, but not fly! (that's a "snakes on a plane" jab)
3. Painted turtles are colourful (but their shells aren't)
2. two prunes are two too many
And the #1:
1. it's best to have a full bladder when your bladder is empty
