If it wasn't raining, it was POURING

What a terrible day for a picnic, but we are HARDCORE, or some of us anyways, who were committed to coming. Surprisingly we got 16 people, and with the weather the way it was, that was a miracle. We also had the island to ourselves, and that's a rare thing on a Saturday in June. David, Erik and I set up a huge tarp to keep us dry, and it fit all 15 people comfortably. We remembered everything but a lighter - luckily Rob showed up and volunteered to find us a lighting implement. He saved the day :) The BBQ was going and we ate and ate - If we even thought we were full, Ben was pushing more burgers and hotdogs at us! The conversation was great and I managed to recruit a new volunteer (bienvenue Lisa!). Cynthia had never been to the island before and was in complete awe - I think we'll be seeing a trip to the island this summer posted by Cynthia so she can explore it some more. Brent and John discovered they had both done Peru treks recently, so they were exchanging notes for a while. I apologize to Marco for not bringing any Veggie burgers - I promise the next BBQ will have them. We positioned David's bike perfectly, so that all the water would run off the tarp directly onto his bike. I'm sure it's squeaky clean now!! Coco and Marianna finally showed up, and Coco got some great pictures.

It wasn't the biggest turnout for our 1st year celebration, but it was a whole lot of fun, and that's what it's all about. I want to say thank you to the volunteers who got together and presented me with a token of their appreciation (a MEC giftcard, of course!). It will be going to good use! If you didn't get to join us on the island, we'll be having our Annual General Meeting in October (Indoors!!) which will give members and volunteers another chance to mingle and meet everyone and eat good food.

Thanks again, everyone - it was a wonderful day despite the weather!
