Directive From The TOC Executive

Interim COVID-19 Rules for the Toronto Outdoor Club

  • You must meet the following four conditions to participate in any TOC events.
    Within the 14 days preceding the event:
    1. You have not travelled outside of Ontario;
    2. You don’t have any COVID-19, cold, or flu symptoms;
    3. You have not knowingly been in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case;
    4. You have taken and passed the Ontario COVID-19 self-assessment on-line questionnaire.
  • You will bring a cloth mask/face covering, which you will wear during the event meet-up, plus any time during the event when the 2m social distancing is not possible.
  • You will comply with any other rules as detailed on the TOC Rules Amendments
  • You will comply with any additional rules set by the organizer of the event for which you have registered, which could be more strict than the ones detailed above.

NOTES

  • These rules are in effect immediately and until further notice.
  • YOU MUST CONFIRM IN THE "NOTES" SECTION DURING SIGN UP THAT YOU MEET ALL THE CONDITIONS LISTED IN THIS DIRECTIVE AND YOU WILL COMPLY WITH ALL THE INTERIM RULES.
    Your event coordinator has been instructed to remove your event registration without further notice if you do not take this step during your registration.
  • Your coordinator may also remove you from the event (even after it has started) if you fail to comply with the rules, and report you back to the TOC Executive.
  • If you cannot or do not wish to follow these temporary rules, please wait to sign up for any TOC events until the interim rules are lifted.

Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation as we keep each other safe during the pandemic.

Please note that I have set the Maximum Group Size to 1 so all registrants automatically go to the waiting list.
Members on the waiting list who have confirmed in the NOTES section that they meet all the Conditions and will comply
with all the Rules specified in the above Directive may then be added to the event.

The max group size is about 8 participants mainly because parking is very limited, and I have

read reports that cars parked outside of the designated parking lot have been ticketed and towed!

PLEASE NOTE: There is no carpool for this event

DISTANCE: about 18 km

PACE: about 4.5 km/h

DIFFICULTY: D4 (some rugged terrain)

  • This hike is restricted to strong intermediate and advanced hikers.
  • Everybody will go directly to the waiting list and may be added to the event based on suitable hiking experience, and a good attendance history.
  • Sign up for this event ONLY if you are quite sure you will attend. Late cancellations will be frowned upon.
  • And if you are already signed up for another event on the same day as this event, then I will not add you to this event.

WARNING
This trail is very challenging with lots of slippery rocks and boulders, logs, mud, ascents and descents and cliffs.
To get to the "narrows" lunch spot we will have to scramble down (then back up on the way back) a VERY challenging outcropping of boulders. See pic upper right of the 4 pics
However, you could stay at the top for lunch and avoid going down then up
There are wetlands and beaver dams to walk across, with lots of opportunities to slip and get very wet and cold.
The terrain is rocky Canadian Shield, about 17 km north of Port Severn, between Parry Sound and Barrie on the east coast of Georgian Bay.
We will have spectacular views of the lake from atop granite cliffs.
Plan to arrive before the start time.
