The terrain is variable with hilly sections. Length is 20 km, pace is 4.5 km/h (maps 5/6/7)
This hike is suitable for intermediate hikers who like to step up the pace a bit. It is not suitable for beginners. Hikers coming on this event are expected to have D4 level hiking experience and be able to maintain a continuous pace of 4.5 km/h. If it isn't obvious from your TOC record that you can do this hike, please, when registering, include some comments in the notes to convince me that you can keep up.
We will car shuttle to km 7.3 and hike back through Vinemount, Devil's Punch Bowl, and Felker's Falls, walking through red oak and white pine forests. This is a scenic section of the Bruce Trail with spectacular views of Lake Ontario. One of the highlights of this hike is the Devil's Punch Bowl, where Stoney Creek flows over a deep circular shaped gorge that reveals 40 million years of geological history. Midway we'll take the steep climb up the Devil's Punch Bowl Side Trail and visit the Punch Bowl Country Market, a family owned bakery and market, where we'll stop for lunch.
Members willing to drive and regular D4 hikers may get priority on the wait list.
