FRANKLIN ISLAND
June 10,11,12
Due to requests I'm adding a couple more trips to
this destination.
This is a three day trip for experienced TOC
paddlers.. Franklin Island is a
picturesque spot
on
Georgian Bay with spectacular sunsets!
We will depart from Toronto early
Friday am pick up our canoes and head to Snug
Harbour to drop in. We will paddle about 2 hours
to the southern tip of Franklin Island and move a
bit North where we will set up camp on crown
land. We will then set off to explore the many
inland lakes and ponds on the west side of the
island possibly doing a few quick portages on our
journey. Returning to base camp before evening.
The next day will be a casual day of not so
rushed departure and a bit more exploratory
paddling around Snug Harbor before returning to
port.We will stop off in Parry Sound at a
restaurant to sort out costs before heading home
to Toronto. The plan is to get back to Downsview
between 6-8 pm.
This trip is not for beginners with
minimal paddling experience
or people who
cannot swim well
without a pfd.
TOC Policy states that any time on water a PDF
must be worn ,it is your responsibility
to make sure you comply
with the requirements for this event
when you sign
up. We may be paddling in rough choppy
water, with
associated risks so you must be ok with
putting safety first.
I have arranged canoes and related gear, if you
are in need of any other camoping gear feel free
to email me and I can help you out.
Depending on interest, an 8 man tent may be
shared as the camping spots do not support 6
individual tents.
If you have a valid fishing licence you are
welcome to bring a fishing rod.
We will paddle for 3 or 4 hours a day..unless we
all feel like flaking out on a beach
. Please email me
(kenniesdead@hotmail.com)
the
following info when you sign up...
*What canoe trips have you been on in
the last
year or so? (
How many days, where, etc)
*Where did you learn to canoe (do you
have any
ORCKA
certificates etc)
*How would you rate your swimming
ability without
a PFD
*Have you ever practiced canoe rescues?
*What backcountry gear do you have -
bag/mat//tent/stove/water
purification/pack
etc
If you don't send specific info you may
be deleted
from the event.
There will be no pre trip meeting as
details will
be worked out
by email. Priority
will go to people
who have been
on previous
canoe trips with me OR
A minimum of 5 TOC
events.
Participants will also be responsible
for
reserving their own canoes from the
outfitter.
Details will be emailed to participants
in
advance.
Please
do not
sign up if you are not
a good swimmer. If your
boat
capsizes or
you slip on rocks
and fall in the water without a PDF you
put
yourself at risk and
may endanger other
members of the group.
We will observe all park rules + follow
principles of Leave No
Trace
