Itinerary:

The terrain is hilly and challenging. Length of hike is approximately 16-18 km, pace is 4-4.5 km/h. Unsuitable for members that struggle on big hills.

We'll start in the Beaver Valley ski club, then up a ski slope where we'll pick up Main Trail, then head north, descend the Valley on Sideroad 7A, pass through Kimberly, and visit Old Baldy where we'll have lunch. We'll then head south, explore some side trails in the Eagle’s Summit Nature Reserve, descend the Valley on the Valley Crossover Trail, and return to our cars in the Beaver Valley Ski Club.

Lots of ups and downs, some good views and lovely forested areas. Panoramic views from both sides of the valley. Watch for turkey vultures and buteo hawks.

Waitlist Policy

Maximum group size is set to 1, so everyone starts on the waitlist. Passengers will be added as drivers become available. This is a carpool only event, there is no meet-at-event option.

Please note that late cancellations are a problem for the organizer. Late cancellations mean that people on the waitlist may lose out on a spot, and the vehicle cost gets spread too thinly. So please, if you must cancel, give as much notice as you can. I'm reluctant to take members whose signup history shows that they're unreliable, members with good attendance records may get priority. If you must cancel after the registration cut-off on the Friday, please do so by text or email (not voice message).

Precautions Against Ticks

Ticks are a growing problem across southern Ontario.

Wear long pants. Tuck your shirt into your pants, and pull your socks over your pant legs. Wear light coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily. Use bug spray containing DEET or Icaridin (also called picaridin) on your skin and clothing. Avoid tall grass.

Check yourself for ticks after the event. If you find an attached tick, remove it with tweezers. If a tick is attached to your skin for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting Lyme disease is extremely small. Check here for more information about how to stay safe.

Required Items to Bring:
