EVENT DETAILS

THE CARPOOL LEAVES SHEPPARD WEST STATION AT 9:30 AM

So, this is my first time leading this particular route with the TOC. I've led all the sections via other versions of this route 7 times previously.

Please bring a lunch and at least 1-2 Litres of water. We will stop for lunch beside the river.

If you cannot walk the entire distance please do not sign up for this hike.

Terrain: Some gravel sections & single track dirt sections
Trail vs Road: 12km vs 0km
Elevation Range: 100 meters
Challenging Climbs of Note: 3 climbs of at least 75 meters and another 2 of at least 25 meters
Largest Climb: 90 meters
Washrooms: Yes, there will be an outhouse close to the lunch spot.
Highlights: 'A waterfall'

Those willing to drive, will get first priority on the wait list, should they be needed.
DRIVERS, WHEN YOU SIGN UP, PLEASE ANSWER THE CARPOOL QUESTION REGARDING THE AMOUNT OF PASSENGERS YOU CAN TAKE IN YOUR CAR!!!

For those of you choosing to meet at the event location, instead of the carpool, please ensure that you come on time

I’ve set the maximum event count at 1 as I don’t want to add anyone to the event until I have enough carpool drivers to accommodate passengers.
I will try accommodate up to 20-25 people.

CARPOOL PARTICIPATION QUESTION

As of July 1, 2022 the TOC has ended its mandatory mask mandate for carpooling
For your own protection, wearing a mask during the carpool is still highly recommended.

The event coordinator will do their best to match up drivers and passengers with a preference to wear masks, but the mix of who signs up is out of their control, so it may not always be possible to be in a car where everyone prefers to mask up.
Please, if you are participating in the carpool as a DRIVER or a PASSENGER, write in the NOTES SECTION when registering whether you prefer:

WARNING: Should you ignore or forget to answer this question in the NOTES field, you might be skipped on the wait list.

PRECAUTIONS AGAINST TICKS

Wear long pants.

Tuck your shirt into your pants, and pull your socks over your pant legs. Wear light coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily.

Use bug spray containing DEET or Icaridin on your skin and clothing.

Avoid tall grass.

Check yourself for ticks immediately after the event, you can ask me for help for removal.
When you get home, shower and do a full body check, if you find a tick, remove it with tweezers.
If a tick is attached to your skin for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting Lyme disease is negligible.

How to Get There:

We'll meet at the intersection of the Elora- Cataract Trailway & Mississauga Road.
The closest Approximate Address is 17952 Mississauga Rd, Alton - 43°48'47.1"N 80°01'43.3"W,
But our meet point will be at the trail intersection about 500 meters north of that at the corner of Cataract Rd & Mississauga Rd.

Please note that my event directions are from SHEPPARD WEST STATION.

Leaving Sheppard West - take the Allen Road south to the 401.
Travel west along Highway 401 to Highway 410 (15 KM)
Merge with Highway 410 and follow it North for approx. 39 KM (NOTE: HWY 410 will eventually turn into HWY 10)
At the traffic light in Caledon Village, turn left (WEST) onto Charleston Sideroad (RR 24) for 6 KM
Turn left (SOUTH) onto Mississauga Rd for 1.5 KM. (NO TRAFFIC LIGHT)
Parking can be found on the shoulder of both sides of the street, except around the intersection of the trail & Cataract Rd.

POTENTIAL WASHROOM STOP
There's a Tim Hortons located at the south- west corner of Charleston Sideroad and Highway 10 in Caledon Village.
Easiest way to enter is to turn left at the traffic light and then turn left again into the parking lot.
