Itinerary:

Located on the Toronto waterfront, Tommy Thompson Park is a unique urban wilderness minutes from downtown. The park is located on a man-made peninsula, known as the Leslie Street Spit, which extends five km into Lake Ontario and is over 500 hectares in size. The park represents some of the largest existing natural habitat on the Toronto waterfront. Wildflower meadows, cottonwood forests, coastal marshes, cobble beaches and sand dunes are just some of the habitats at Tommy Thompson Park. Wildlife, especially birds, flourish at the park, which provides one of the best nature watching areas in the GTA.

We will meet at the gate of the park, next to the parking lot, at 4:00pm and walk in along the trail near the water for 2 hours and then head back to the gate. If time permits we will go up to the lighthouse. Expect to walk around 15km, at a pace of 4km/h.

Bring a snack and some water. There is no running water in the park, and there are just a couple of portable toilets. We should finish the hike by 8:00 pm.

Please dress appropriate to the weather. Please note that there are European fire ants and ticks, so long pants and closed toe shoes are preferred.

The Tommy Thompson Park has a strict no dogs / pets allowed policy.
