Itinerary:

Please take note of the new meeting place, in the vicinity of Kipling Station. Please allow yourself extra time to walk there from Kipling, if you are arriving by transit.

Note: Please add yourself to the waitlist, I will move people off the waitlist as drivers sign up, and we have room in cars.

If you are a driver, please include how many passengers you can take in the notes field when you sign up.

A loop hike traversing a variety of trails in scenic Mono Cliffs Provincial Park, connecting the main trail with (whole or part of) the Turnbull, South Outlier, Walter Tovell, Spillway, Lookout, McCarston’s Lake and Laidlaw side trails.

We will maintain a healthy pace. The hike is mostly flat, though there are a few places along the route with significant elevation gain or loss. The hike is suitable for intermediate hikers.

We will stop for lunch during the hike, roughly halfway through. Please bring a lunch and at least 1 to 2 litres of water. We will stop for breaks to enjoy the countryside, but there will not be any opportunities to drop- off.

Drivers may be given preference when signing up. Passengers will be added from the wait list as drivers become available. This event should be able to accommodate 12-13 participants, if enough drivers sign up.

There is a fee for parking; drivers will be asked to pay the fee when we arrive at Mono Cliffs. Parking fees will be added to the car pool cost, which will be divided among all attendees.

Well behaved, well socialized dogs are welcome to come on the hike, but must be on a leash no longer than six feet at all times. Please pick up after your dog. Please indicate you are bringing a dog when you sign up. The norm is for people bringing dogs to bring their own cars. If you want to bring your dog but need a ride, email me, and we'll try and figure something out.

Hiking distance will be about 14-16km. If it's very hot that day, we might do a shorter hike.

___________

It's tick season. Here are some precautions you can take:

Wear long pants. Tuck your shirt into your pants, and pull your socks over your pant legs. Wear light coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily. Use bug spray containing DEET or Icaridin on your skin and clothing. Avoid tall grass.

Check yourself for ticks immediately after the event. When you get home, shower and do a full body check. If you find a tick, remove it with tweezers.
