Itinerary:
HERE WE GO!! Lake Superior Provincial Park. This will be a fairly casual trip with a few organized side trips off the main lake. We will book a couple of backcountry sites that are accessible by canoe with very short portages. We will set up camp in the backcountry for a couple nights then move to another site before heading out on the following saturday. So far the plan is to leave Toronto on Sunday Night(august 4) at 6 pm and drive up to make it there for 6 am monday morning. It's a 10 hour drive but with the usual stops and possible holiday traffic we'll give ourselves some extra time. We will do the Fenton/Treeby loop. https://www.ontarioparks.com/pdf /maps/lakesuperior/Fe nton_Treeby_canoe_route.pdf In total its 16kms that can be split up with very few and very short portages. For the adventurous there are an abundance of daily side trips to take. Planned return by early Sunday August 11. . We will most likely travel in one 12 seater van unless there are other people willing to drive their own vehicle which will increase the costs If you are interested, stay tuned for updates to this post or email me at kenniesdead@hotmail.com to be notified of updates. This trip is for people who have previous overnight canoeing experience that want to try a longer jaunt. Must have been on a trip with me before or have a TOC member in good standing vouch for you. If you sign up and end up on the waiting list, wait it out. Chances are you can still get on the trip as there are possible drop outs. Here is the parks ontario description of the loop: Fenton-Treeby Route: 16 km (10 mi) loop; day trip or relaxing overnight trip; 11 portages, 150 m or less; Access: via Hwy. 17 Highlights: This loop travels through six lakes in the boreal forest fringe at the north end of the park and is excellent for novice canoeists who are leery of long portages. Treeby Lake with its pine covered islands is quite scenic.
