Itinerary:

OVERVIEW

Winter at the Wolf Den has become a yearly tradition with the TOC, and it has always been one of my favourites. Wolf Den is a hostel on the outskirts of Algonquin park and beautifully appointed with a large shared kitchen and communal areas.

The main facilities will be entirely ours for the weekend: we've booked the whole thing. (Or at least south of the road, I need to make that clarification these days :)

DATE, TIME, AND COST

We'll travel up Friday afternoon/evening and return on Sunday. As always, we'll try to sort out a carpool that will accommodate people's individual schedules and locations. Please remember however, that the official leaving time is 6pm on Friday at Downsview station and that should be an option for everyone signing up.

The per person cost for the weekend's accommodation will be $75.00 (which includes a 3% transaction fee). This cost is due up front by paying the TOC's Treasurer. Payment must be received by January 4th.

Note: Depending on the number of people participating, there may be a small refund from me at the event (perhaps $5). The cost is fixed regardless of how many people come, so the more the merrier :)

If you're participating in the carpool as a passenger, expect an additional cost on top of that for transportation. This I'll collect at the event and distribute to the drivers.

ACCOMMODATIONS

There are several rooms available both in the main lodge and in the satellite cabins. Expect to share a room with 2-3 others (I'll try to help guide preferences, but I don't micromanage this very much.)

There are two private rooms available to friends or couples willing to share the beds. If you want this to be you, first sign-up for the event, and second email me what two people are sharing. The first valid requests will get the room. As usual, I'll be sleeping in one of the outer cabins! There are no bad rooms, just ones further from the bathroom ;)

Shared bathrooms and showers are available in the main lodge.

Bedding and towels are provided.

ACTIVITIES

While there are skiing and hiking trails within a short walk of the Wolf Den (not to mention a great waterfall) we're also right on Algonquin's doorstep!

With this many people, there will be multiple groups heading out both days: if you're interested in skiing, snowshoeing or hiking, you're likely to find like-minded members to head out with.

If you need equipment, the Wolf Den is right beside Algonquin Outfitters.

In the evenings expect a social atmosphere upstairs in the loft, talking or playing games, and in all likelihood, a campfire outside.

Finally, I'd be remiss not to mention the available sauna :)

FOOD

The Wolf Den has a large, fully equipped kitchen available for our use.

Saturday evening we'll organize an (optional) potluck dinner which I've always found to be a great experience.

Beyond that, meal planning will be up to each of you. (Though you may wish to look for like minded people on the trip or in your carpool. We can help here.)
