Itinerary:

The terrain is hilly and challenging, highest point on the Bruce Trail. There are two big ascents and descents. Distance is 20 km, pace is 4.5 km an hour. Map 23.

This hike is suitable for experienced intermediate hikers. It is not suitable for beginners or hikers that prefer a slower pace. Hikers coming on this event are expected to have D4 level hiking experience.

We will be hiking a series of loops in the Pretty River Valley Provincial Park, connecting the Main Trail, the John Haigh Side Trail, the Petun Side Trail, and the Pretty River Side Trail. We will pass through the Petum Conservation Area and Osler Bluff and the highest point on the Bruce trail (540m above sea level). There are some steep ascents and descents, some great lookouts.

Afterwards, we have an option to stop for refreshments at Mylar & Loreta's restaurant .

Maximum group size is set to 1 so that everyone starts on the wait list, passengers will be added as drivers become available. Members willing to drive and members with favourable attendance records may get priority on the wait list.

PRECAUTIONS AGAINST TICKS

Wear long pants. Tuck your shirt into your pants, and pull your socks over your pant legs. Wear light coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily. Use bug spray containing DEET or Icaridin on your skin and clothing. Avoid tall grass.

Check yourself for ticks immediately after the event, you can ask me for help for removal. When you get home, shower and do a full body check, if you find a tick, remove it with tweezers. If a tick is attached to your skin for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting Lyme disease is negligible.

For more information, see Ticks
