A fast hike on challenging terrain, hilly in sections, on narrow paths shared with mountain bikers. Total distance is about 13 kilometers, pace is 5+ km/h.

Please note that it will be dark for most of the hike, and a light is required (headlamp preferred.)

We'll start from Summerhill Subway Station and follow this route

  1. Depart from Summerhill Subway Station
  2. Follow the Vale of Avoca ravine south
  3. Past the Brickworks
  4. Along the tracks to Pottery Road Bridge
  5. North through Crothers Woods and the lower Don Valley Mountain Biking Trail
  6. South through the Upper Don Valley Mountain Biking Trail
  7. Return by the Brick Works
  8. Follow Vale of Avoca ravine north
  9. Finish at Summerhill Station.

This event is restricted to fast and experienced hikers who have already gone on my "Brisk Walk" series, or similar events. For safety, numbers will be limited. Everyone starts on the wait list.

Note: If you come on a winter hike, you should always have a pair of icers in your pack. You won't have to use them very often, but when it is icy on the trail, you'll need them. The icer is held to your boot with a set of Velcro straps, and keeps you from slipping and sliding. You can purchase good quality icers at MEC.
