EVENT DETAILS

So, this is my first attempt at coordinating a hike at Rouge Valley in 11 years.
So, if it doesn't go well, I will learn from it and improve it for another year.

So my evil plan is

  • Meet at the main entrance of the Rouge Park, beside the Rouge Valley Conservation Centre and near the Toronto Zoo.
  • Complete a 11 KM loop of the park walking along the Orchard, Mast, Cedar & Visa trails,
  • We'll do a lunch stop at the Rouge Park campground, about 6.5 KM into the hike.

This hike will primarily be on dirt or gravel trails.

In terms of hills, there's probably about 4 climbs of at least 50 meters and several other smaller ones.

We'll attempt to stop and use the washroom at the Glen Rouge Campground.
Otherwise, we'll do a stop for lunch / snack at the same time.

    PRECAUTIONS AGAINST TICKS

  • Wear long pants.
  • Tuck your shirt into your pants, and pull your socks over your pant legs. Wear light coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily.
  • Use bug spray containing DEET or Icaridin on your skin and clothing.
  • Avoid tall grass.

Check yourself for ticks immediately after the event, you can ask me for help for removal.
When you get home, shower and do a full body check, if you find a tick, remove it with tweezers.
If a tick is attached to your skin for less than 24 hours, your chance of getting Lyme disease is negligible.

    For more information, see Ticks
