Waterfront Trail - Oshawa to Darlington 32 km (7/29/2017)

You are STRONGLY encouraged to read this page in its entirety before signing up. If you'd like to attend, we ask that you abide by our rules and procedures as a time/cost saving process (with an end result of keeping membership free and lower cost events).

DISTANCE: 32 km

PACE: 5.5 km/h (this is a lively pace!)

DIFFICULTY: D5 (because of the distance and pace)

TERRAIN: mainly flat, paved, grass and beach


IF YOU HAVE NOT PREVIOUSLY HIKED WITH ME:

This hike is not for beginners, or for hikers who are not in good physical shape
Everyone will be expected to keep up with the group.

If you are new to the TOC, or you have not hiked with me, or your recent TOC hike history
does not include recent hikes that suggest this hike is appropriate for you (20+ km at 5.5 km/h),
SEND ME AN EMAIL describing recent experience you have hiking 20+ km at a quick pace in order to be considered to join this hike.
This is required! No email, no hike.


MAX hikers: about 12 (+ or -)
I set the Maximum Group Size to 4, because I can take 3 passengers, but this event can accommodate about 12 hikers.
Passengers will be added as additional drivers become available

Members on the waiting list who are willing to drive may get priority

You can also drive yourself and meet at the event start

ABOUT THE HIKE

Let's walk along the Waterfront Trail, along a mix of paved path, grassy parks, dirt paths and sandy beach. There may be some muddy sections.

This is the route we will take (subject to possible variation based on beach conditions)

  • Start from Lakefront Park West in Oshawa
  • head east along the Waterfront Trail
  • find our usual excellent spot for lunch on the beach
  • continue on to Darlington Provincial Park
  • turn around and head back taking a partially different route
  • ice cream time for those interested (optional)
  • on the drive back we could detour to our usual ice cream parlour at Liverpool Rd

  • Cell phone + whistle
  • Good footwear
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • Water 2 - 4 L (as much as you need)
