Easter weekend backpacking in Frontenac!
Frontenac Provincial Park is situated
on a southern arm of the Canadian Shield north of
Kingston. This is a semi-wilderness park which
features granite outcrops, vast wetlands and
We will leave Toronto on Friday morning
and start our hike into the park when we arrive
and spend 2 nights on the beautiful backcountry
lakeside sites of the park. I would like to do
the slide lake loop (cluster 1 on night one and 4
on night two). However, there are no reservations
at this time of year, so we will plan a route
when we get there based on site availability.
We'll break camp *early* Sunday morning, stop for some lunch, and aim to arrive
Toronto by mid-afternoon.
I welcome all levels, however, you must be a
very strong hiker with access to all the gear
necessary, including winter camping gear. You must
be prepared for:
snowshoeing/hiking up to 15 km
rugged, challenging terrain and/or snowy/icey conditions
setting up a winter camp twice as we may set
up and take down at different sites each night.
COMFORTABLY carrying a fully loaded pack (approx 30-40lbs)
This won't be a speedy hike, as we want to enjoy the scenery, BUT we will keep
steady in order to stay warm and make sure we have some time to socialize and
merriment at our site.
All planning will be done via email. Please
make sure you can and will reply to all emails in
a timely manner, or you will be dropped for the
trip. As we are limited on the number of tents permitted, we may need to share. I
will not be organizing common meals, but if others are interested I will put
members in touch if you want to coordinate with each other. I will send out an
email asking for you to confirm your gear AND what common camp gear items you can
bring (ie: saw, rope etc). Once I have all your info, I will send out a final
