Itinerary:
Let's climb some walls!

Here's the plan:
- Meet at True North Climbing Gym in Downsview Park
- Climb for 2 - 3 hours (in other words, until everyone gets tired)
- Catch our breath, and enjoy the rest of the day

The reason why I like True North is because they cater to beginners, experts, and everyone in between. They offer beginner lessons throughout the day and have a number of easier climbing routes, so if you have never climbed before, this would be a good opportunity to try it out. There are also numerous difficult routes that will challenge advanced climbers. In short, there's something for everyone. It doesn't hurt that they also have some of the highest indoor walls in the city (30 feet!)

If you have climbed before at another gym, you will have to pass a belay test to climb. This test is offered free of charge.
If you fail the belay test or you have never climbed before, you must take a beginner lesson and pass the belay test. This lesson is NOT free (see cost breakdown below). Every climber must be able to belay since it isn't fair to the rest of the group if you just climb and don't belay anyone else.
Anyone who hasn't climbed at True North before will also have to fill out and sign a waiver. This can be done online beforehand at their website to save time (Click here for the waiver page on their website).
In order to climb you will need a climbing harness and shoes, which you can rent from the gym (see cost breakdown below). I recommend bringing flip flops with you so you aren't walking around in your climbing shoes all afternoon.

Cost breakdown (paid directly to the gym):
Day pass: $20
Equipment rental: $12 ($6 each for harness & shoes)
Intro Lesson Package: $40 (includes lesson, day pass, and equipment rental)
Intro Lesson Package/Membership: $55 (includes, lesson, day pass, equipment rental, one month membership)

There are also punch cards and memberships available. To learn more, visit True North's Web site: www.truenorthclimbing.com

I will contact anyone registered for this event who has not climbed with me before to determine how many spots to reserve for the intro lesson. Lessons will be booked two or three days ahead of time. If you register for the event after that time and need a lesson, I can't guarantee that I will be able to get another spot for you. True North has full change rooms and lockers to store your gear while you climb, all you need is a lock. If you have any questions before or after signing up, please feel free to contact me.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:True North Climbing Gym is located in Downsview Park on Carl Hall Road. It is next to the Scotiabank Pond.

If you are taking the TTC, take the subway to Downsview station (north terminus of the University-Spadina subway). From there, get on the 84 Sheppard West bus, disembark at John Drury Drive and walk the rest of the way into Downsview Park OR take the 101 Downsview Park bus which will take you into the park and stops near the Scotiabank Pond which is a very short walk to the climbing gym.

If you are driving, take the 401 to Keele Street, head north to Sheppard Ave W then turn right (east) to the entrance to Downsview Park at John Drury Drive. Turn right into the park, then left onto Carl Hall Road. After crossing the train tracks turn right towards the Scotiabank Pond. True North is at the back of the large building next to the Scotiabank Pond just around the corner from the go kart track. There is plenty of free parking available.

The gym can be difficult to find if you have never been there before, so if you are unclear about directions, feel free to contact me beforehand.
