Itinerary:

KAWARTHA HIGHLANDS CANOE TRIP

This is a relaxing overnight for experienced TOC paddlers. We will drive up Sat am, pick up our canoes and put in at Long Lake access point. There will be several portages of under 500m. Sunday we will explore the area and return to the city by about 8pm.

We will paddle for several hours a day as conditions require. If there is calm water and little wind we will take the time to explore the area, have frequent swimming breaks and enjoy the scenery. Bring a camera!

You will need to supply / rent all your own gear. Only 3 tents are permitted on campsites so expect to share! (Paddles and PDFs come with rentals if you don't have your own). Participants (passengers) will be responsible for reserving canoes from the outfitter. They have a much better selection this year. Long Lake Lodge 705-656-4570 is right at the put in. If they have 3 person canoes available on Saturday, we will not be confined to an even number of participants.

It is your responsibility to make sure you comply with the requirements for this event. Please do not sign up if you can't swim very well without a PFD, have minimal canoeing ability or have not been on at least 3 previous TOC events. We may be paddling in rough choppy water, with associated risks so you must be prepared to put safety first. Priority will go to people who are known to the organizer, and have been on previous TOC backcountry events. (If you typically like to log kilometres, this is not the trip for you!)

.
Please email me the following info when you sign up. Please assess your abilities as fairly as possible as the info is important for the safety of the trip!
*What canoe trips have you been on in the last year or so? *How would you rate your swimming ability without a PFD
*What backcountry gear do you have - bag/mat//tent/stove/water purification/pack etc
*Name of a TOC coordinator that has been on events with you.

We will observe all park rules + follow principles of Leave No Trace http://www.leavenotrace.ca/principles You must wear a PFD at all times when you are in a boat on the water. (TOC policy).
